Thirty years of making music tends to leave a trail of sound…
…so in no specific order, here are some of the more recent projects I have had the pleasure of working on.
From the intimate singer-songwriter recordings to the layered electronic productions, my work here certainly spans genres, moods, and collaborations; each project a different conversation between artist, song, and studio.
Alexia Parenzee "26" - Mix Engineer - This was an adventurous mix. I ended up using live orchestral stems recorded from her solo concert and then timing them in to the studio mix. It took a hot minute but the end results were certainly worth the time & effort.
Inflatable Cactus "I See No Life When I Look Into Your Eyes / Night After Night" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - Rhys and I concocted these arrangements in the tiniest of areas with a footprint of about 2sqm. Drums and all! Good times.
Kristen Walden "Morgan" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - I couldn't find the right vibe on the prophet for this one so we made Kristen's voice the lead synthesiser instead, using a whole slew of shaping and modelling software.
The Plum Trees "Winter Sun" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - You might be able to tell that a lot of this song was shaped through a chroma console :)
Brodie Loves "Keep Walking (EP)" - Producer - Mix engineer - Bretskii said to me a few months after we did this album that is was by far the best guitar tone he has ever had on a recording.
Dallas Frasca "Nobody's Coming To Save Me" - Co-writer - Dal and I were locked in a room in Fremantle Customs House and told to write and record a song by the end of the day and this what we came up with. This song also led to my very first APRA music award nomination.
Good News Now We Can Eat All The Vampires "Everything Is Fine (Album)" - Writer - Producer - Mix engineer - This was a labor of love. Took me four years of writing and arranging and bringing together a band of seven to pull it off.
Red Moon Cowboy "Rome" - Producer - Mix engineer - When these guys go loud, its hard not to like.
Alexia Parenzee "Retrospect EP" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - Alexia was one of my earliest clients and this EP was so much fun to bring together with her and the band. Always such a joy to work with them.
Drab Liberties "Good Thing EP" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - Brad is such a great songwriter and amazingly witty lyricist. He also somehow talked me in to joining his band on the bass. I cant say I didn't enjoy it.
The Plum Trees "Anything For You" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - Toy pianos and household percussion. Shannon and I would use whatever was laying around to make a sound with. I believe we used the elastic strap from my notepad and a pencil tapping for the understated rhythm track.
Kristen Walden "The Life and Death of a Romantic" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - This was both an in-house and remote project as Kristen lives in NSW and would fly over occasionally with a new song for us to work on together that I'd tinker away with when she flew back home.
The Manic "Rust" - Producer - Mix engineer - God, I loved this band. Rust was such an epic song to put together and this was the first time these misfits had ever stepped inside a recording studio.
Catherine Traicos "Choose Your Own Light (EP)" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer -Cat & I put this one together in my tiny studio in the backyard of my house in Cottesloe.
Kristen Walden "Flinch" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - we had the idea of starting this very mono-centric, and as the song progressed, the stereo field would gradually increase in width.
Red Temples "Medicine Man" - Producer - Mix engineer - Good, solid Aus rock right here. Good lads to boot - I convinced them that a men's choir is exactly what the chorus needed.
Red Moon Cowboy "Town By The Sea" - Producer - Mix engineer - Recorded this one live at my studio in North Freo. Pretty sure the neighbours were not happy with us that day.
Dallas Frasca "Nobody's Coming To Save Me" - Co-writer - Collaborator - Dal had this one in the pocket for a while and asked me for input. We spent an afternoon slicing and arranging the demo like a puzzle, into something else entirely - most of which actually made it through to the final recording.
Good News Now We Can Eat All The Vampires "The Colour Upstream" - Writer - Producer - Mix engineer
Samio "My Legs Hurt (EP)" - Producer - Mix engineer
Inflatable Cactus "Planet No" - Producer - Collaborator - Mix engineer - I played drums on this too, very badly, but luckily you'd never tell from my ninja skills in editing :D
